About Kihei:
Kihei ~ The Hawaiian word
meaning cape. Pronounced key hay. Usually tied on one side and
draped
across the body. If you look at the geography of the island,
Kihei was aptly named. It can be sunny and
beautiful here and only a short distance away it can be under
dark clouds. We are protected from
inclimate weather as one would be protected wearing a kihei.
Sunny weather ~ We
really are on the sunny side of Maui. The Kihei/Wailea area gets
less than 10 inches
of rain a year. That means it's much drier here and you get more
beach time in. Temperatures are usually
in 80's all year long. Hawaii is in the tropics, so the climate
is warm, usually in the 80s F (high 20s C).
The climate is made bearable by the trade winds, normally from
the northeast.
Activities ~ We have a wide variety of activities on
island, you name it, chances are you will find it here.
Kihei is close to most everything, the far side of the
island-east side is a 3 hour drive. That would be the
driving adventure to Hana. What's 2 to 15 minutes away? The Kihei
Boat ramp...if you are diving or
snorkeling Molokini chances are you leave from there, 2 minute
drive tops. Movie theaters, restaurants
galleries, open air craft kiosks. World class golf courses are in
Wailea, right next door. Kihei's best known
activity is watching a Maui sunset. Grab a chair or beach towel
and head out to the beach for one of the
best views ever. Kamaole Beach Park III has a large grassy knoll
in the area, perfect place to park a chair.
Beaches ~ Most the
best beaches are located in South Maui. From Maalaea Harbor to
just about where
we are located there are 10 miles of white sandy beaches. All
accessable, no charge for parking. The three
Kamaole Beach Parks, have life guards, restroom facilities and
showers. Kamaole Beach Park III - was
voted FIFTH BEST BEACH IN HAWAII BY
FROMMER'S. It's about a 2 minute drive--less than 10
minutes walking distance from the B&B. Snorkel, dive,
kayaking gear and rentals are all available close
by if not at the beach site. Have you always wanted to learn how
to surf? Near Kamaole Beach Park II, just
2 miles away, lessons are offered 365 days a year. The infamous
Makena Beach also known as Big Beach
is just 10 minutes away. Kayak turtle town area or Keon`e o `io
(La Perouse) and snorkel with turtles and
dolphins. Put your snorkel mask on, then put your face in the
water --instant aquarium!
Whale season is from November through April, you can easily spot
them from the beach.
